The PTCB exam is the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. Passing it grants you the Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential, a nationally recognized standard in the United States.
You must have a high school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED) and complete a PTCB-Recognized Education/Training Program OR have equivalent work experience (at least 500 hours). You must also pass a criminal background check.

The test consists of 90 multiple-choice questions. Only 80 are scored; the other 10 are unscored pilot questions used for future exams.
You have 1 hour and 50 minutes (110 minutes) to complete the computer-based test.
Once your application is approved, you will receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) email. You then schedule your exam through the Pearson VUE website or phone at one of their professional testing centers.
Your CPhT certification is valid for two years. To renew, you must complete 20 hours of continuing education (including at least 1 hour in pharmacy law and 1 hour in patient safety) and pay the renewal fee.
