CCHT Practice Test

The exam is offered by the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission. This organization develops the test, sets the standards for certification, and maintains the credential for dialysis technicians across the country.

Candidates must complete an approved hemodialysis technician training program and meet the minimum clinical experience hours required by the NNCC. Applicants also need to provide proof of employment and verification that they completed both classroom and hands-on training.

You apply directly through the NNCC website by submitting your training documentation, employment verification, and exam fee. Once the application is approved, you receive instructions for scheduling a test date at a nearby testing center.

The exam covers patient care during dialysis, equipment operation, vascular access, principles of hemodialysis, water treatment, infection control practices, emergency procedures, and professional conduct. Questions are designed to reflect real situations technicians face in the clinic.

The test includes 150 multiple-choice questions. Of these, 125 questions count toward your final score, while 25 are experimental items used for future exam development.

A mix of methods helps: review your training materials, use updated study guides, take Prephow CCHT practice tests, and study key areas such as water treatment, access care, and safety procedures. Many candidates also spend extra time reviewing topics they encounter daily in the clinic.

Certification is valid for three years. During that time, technicians must keep working in dialysis and complete continuing education to stay current with safety and technology standards.

When you pass, you receive your official certification and can use the CCHT title. Employers can verify your status through the NNCC, and you’ll need to maintain the credential through ongoing work experience and continuing education.
