CCT stands for Certified Cardiographic Technician. It's a certification offered by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) that validates your expertise in performing electrocardiography (ECG), Holter monitoring, stress testing, and rhythm analysis in cardiovascular settings.
The exam contains 130 total questions, with 110 scored and 20 unscored questions. The unscored questions help CCI evaluate potential questions for future exams and are randomly mixed throughout the test so you won't know which ones don't count.
You get two hours total, with one hour and fifty minutes for answering the exam questions and ten minutes for the tutorial and post-exam survey. You can take restroom breaks as needed, but they don't add to your total time.
You must have a high school diploma or GED, and meet at least one requirement: be currently enrolled as a student or graduate of a cardiovascular or allied health training program, be currently employed or previously employed in the cardiovascular technology field or a recognized allied health field, or have completed a graduate or undergraduate degree from a recognized institution in a field related to science or physical health.
The exam covers conducting pre-procedural activities (10% of exam), performing resting ECG like 12-lead and 15-lead (40%), performing stress tests (20%), performing ambulatory monitoring including Holter, event, telemetry, and pacemaker monitoring (5%), and performing rhythm analysis (25%).
You need to submit an application on CCI's website by creating a CCI account, which will ask for your contact information and documentation to prove eligibility. Once approved, you'll receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) notification with a 90-day window to take the exam.
The exam contains a mix of traditional and innovative question types: traditional multiple-choice where only one of four answers is correct, innovative multiple responses where two or three answers are correct from a list of four to six options, innovative hot spot where you click on a specific area of an image, and innovative drag and place where you drag labels into specific boxes or areas on an image.
CCI officially recommends Hole's Essentials of Human Anatomy and Physiology and Rapid Interpretation of EKG's: An Interactive Course as study materials. Using CCT practice questions, study guides, and review courses focused on ECG interpretation, cardiac physiology, and arrhythmia recognition are essential.
The key is to use Prephow CCT practice tests and study materials that replicate the actual exam format. Since the exam includes innovative question types like hot spot and drag-and-place questions, practice with interactive materials is important. Focus your study time on the areas where you're weaker, and take full-length practice exams under timed conditions to build your test-taking speed and accuracy.
CCT certification validates your skills in ECG, Holter monitoring, and stress testing, which are in demand in hospitals, clinics, and cardiovascular care centers. Certification often leads to better job opportunities and potentially higher pay compared to non-certified technicians.
