CBRN Practice Test

Eligibility typically requires an active RN license and at least two years of clinical practice in burn nursing. Candidates should also have significant experience in direct patient care in a burn unit or burn specialty setting.

The exam blueprint covers the comprehensive spectrum of burn care, including:

• Pathophysiology of burn injuries (thermal, chemical, electrical).
• Clinical Practice: Initial Management (e.g., resuscitation).
• Clinical Practice: Acute Care and Wound Management.
• Psychosocial Support and Patient Advocacy.
• Special populations (pediatric and geriatric burn patients).

The CBRN exam is administered year-round by PSI. You can choose to take the exam in-person at a PSI testing center located worldwide, or you may be able to take it from a quiet, private location via Live Remote Proctoring (LRP).

You must apply through the official BCEN website. The process involves creating an account, submitting an application that verifies your eligibility (including your experience and hours), and paying the exam fee. Once your application is approved, you will receive an authorization to schedule your test at a Pearson VUE testing center.

A combination of methods is most effective:

Recertification is required every four years and can be accomplished through two main options:

• Continuing Education (CE): Completing 100 contact hours of burn care-related continuing education and meeting practice hour requirements.
• Re-examination: Retaking and passing the CBRN exam.
